St Ives is a foodie destination. Casual and welcoming to children? Tick. Michelin for special occasions? Tick. Restaurants with jaw dropping views? Tick. This is our favourites list. The joy of St Ives is that everything is within walking distance. Many require bookings. Some offer takeaways.

Porthgwidden Beach Café is a longstanding favourite which our children (now in their 30s) insist on returning to. The food is excellent and the staff really friendly and the beach is literally just outside the door.

Onzo Pizzeria offers sensational pizza overlooking the harbour and adjacent to the lifeboat station. They also deliver.

Ardor is a personal favourite for a celebration. It has a wide frontage on Fore Street but doesn’t have a view. It more than makes up for it with a menu from the Mediterranean which features pintxos, tapas, fantastic fresh fish and dry aged cuts of meet. The grill is the mainstay of the menu.

Porthminster Kitchen is just on the harbour above the shops – so one flight of stairs to climb. The menu is wide ranging which pleases everyone. This is a sister restaurant to the Porthminster Beach Café.

Porthminster Beach Café is a slightly longer walk (say 10 minutes from Saltings) but with a menu that ranges from sophisticated dishes to fish & chips. It is literally on the beach with amazing sunset views.

The Yellow Canary is a surprise. It doesn’t look like an ordinary café asn it isn’t. Bright, spacious with sandwiches that burst with flavour.

The Fish Shed is also on Porthmeor beach, even further west. The menu is contemporary, bold and enjoys new flavour combinations. Predominantly fish but don’t miss the crispy miso potatoes.

Harbour Fish & Chips is fantastic. The fish comes from the famed Matthew Stevens fishmongers and the potatoes from Cornish farms because they make their own every day. Takeaway available.

The Balancing Eel is a simple restaurant which also has a takeaway menu. The fish is terrific and the chips impossible to resist. I’ve tried.

Porthmeor Beach Café is probably my favourite restaurant in the world. In season, service starts with breakfast and then surfs on a Tapas based menu. The staff are lovely, children are genuinely welcome and there are outside pods (heated in bad weather). The view feels a little different to The Saltings because it is further along the beach and one is closer to the extraordinary rocks.
